Choosing Good Passwords

Choosing a good password is always a problem. The essential tension is that a good password should be easy to remember, yet hard to guess. Most people err on one side or the other. Most people choose passwords that are too easy to guess, such as the name of their spouse or pet. Any word in the dictionary makes for a quick security breach. We have other vendors who send us passwords like 8#{aUv7. Should I have a mobile version of my website?

Every now and then, we're asked by a client if they should have a separate version of their website for mobile devices. These are generally called 'mobi' sites, because they often have a '.mobi' top-level domain name instead of the common '.com' or '.org'.   The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the de-facto standards body of the web, have published a set of best-practices for the mobile web. The idea is to make websites accessable to mobile devices which don't have the capabilities of desktop or laptop browsers. Joomla Update 1.5.20

This morning I updated all our Joomla 1.5 sites that don't use JACLplus from 1.5.18 to 1.5.20. What happened to 1.5.19? I hear you ask. Well, it appears to be a 'stutter release'. About the time 1.5.19 was released last week, a security bug was discovered, so 1.5.20 was released Sunday. Things looks stable now, so I've updated all our sites. As a friend of ours says "A website isn't like a picture you hang on a wall and forget about. It's more like a car that you have to keep tuned up." This is part of our ongoing tune-ups.

New Joomla Community Magazine

The Joomla community has just launched its new magazine. It looks pretty good. Our old friend Steve Burge is on the Joomla board and in charge of community relations, looks like this is a great step in the right direction.
